Our Learn to Live youth group is running a summer camp during August 2021. The camp is open to existing and new members of the youth group. The programme is targeted to youth who have sought asylum, are separated from their parents and are under the age of 18.
In the previous summer of 2020 we provided a food voucher programme. This project, funded by Northamptonshire Community Fund, ensured that the young people were supported throughout the pandemic.
When people join the program this August they can expect a meal each day. The menus are pictured below. The food will be prepared by our youth members and volunteers. On Wednesdays we will have a special celebratory meal prepared by the youth and a guest chef. The young people have told us that they are really excited to cook and eat cultural foods!
We have planned and prepared a range of activities tailored to engage them in learning more about nutrition and physical activity. They will also encourage positive emotional wellbeing and creativity. We are partnering with external providers to deliver dance, drama, fitness, art, healthy eating and drumming workshops.
The library have also been a very valuable addition to our plans! They have agreed to provide us with 4 boxes of resources. This includes picture books, materials on good nutrition and well-being. It also includes history books and artefacts for wider learning.
It is with great thanks to Northamptonshire Sport that we are able to deliver this programme. The impact of the summer programme would not be possible without their financial provision, support and guidance. The benefits of the informative and practical program on the physical and mental health of the young people will be immeasurable.
